Still a-bakin'

Today it was shortbread, from my mom's old recipe, which according to the faded pencilled-in date on the dog-eared recipe, almost predates my existence. Mmm... buttery.

Whipped up a glaze for them, first with some Limoncello, but that tasted funny (sadly) so lemon juice, vodka and icing sugar it was. Hoorah! They're chillin' (literally) in the sunroom, waiting for the glaze to set.

Tomorrow perhaps blondies with whiskey from smitten kitchen. God I love baking.

Then, Saturday, it'll be time to bake another smitten kitchen offering I've been dying to try: her maple cream pie. SO excited.
Though I was reading one of my good ol' Polish cookbooks and came across a mazurek recipe hailing from the same region of Poland as my Babcia. I'd make that... but it seems to be more of an Easter thing, apparently.

I totally want (need!) to do those cherry jewel bars of my childhood, too. Oh God. Can't wait.

Off to try some impromptu eggplant parmesan now, using the last of the Marcella bolognese that was in the freezer. I could eat it with a spoon but I figured that wouldn't be too filling.

Oh! Made that carrot soup with fennel-green pesto I found on CHOW. Was a little bland on its own, but a dash of nutmeg and some pesto later, it was perfect.
