Made my Mornay today. Briefly had aspirations to go buy some nice live crabs from the Chinese market, but then realized that I'd be spending a ton of money and would probably waste or otherwise ruin more meat than I picked out and would have a logistically difficult time fitting all those crabs in places. Wow, that sounded dirty, but really, even our biggest pot really isn't that big.
Bought the nice crabmeat from the fridge section in Metro instead. Compromise, but not a big one, right? Claw meat. Should be better than canned, right? Well, I sure wish I'd known it was frozen, so I could have, like, thawed it in advance, instead of opening the can and finding a 90% frozen solid chunk which I had to pull bits off of, thereby ruining any suggestion of largish pieces of crab.
Then I undersalted the sauce. I know, right? Bland cheese sauce? How? But oh it happened.
Still, it was creamy and comforty after a cold day of looking at the unfinished apartment that I should be like living in right now but instead I'm still here.
Tomorrowwwww... we'll see if I make dinner, but I have leftover rice noodles and lemongrass and bell peppers and Napa and shrimp paste and hell even some crab, which if I'm lucky just MIGHT defrost by tomorrow. >.>
Smells like the makings of a clean-out-the-crisper noodle concoction!
I kinda wanna save the crab and make crab cakes.
